The Owari Satsuma variety of mandarin is our last product of the season. Our harvest is about two weeks behind this year, starting in the first few days of December. Sizing for these sweet jewels ranges from small to super colossal, and at this time we are peaking on large and jumbo. You can expect to receive a brushed, washed and waxed piece of fruit that will hold several weeks if held in ideal conditions. Flavor is superb, with a mild amount of acid and nice residual sugar. Availability will be tight this year, as mandarins are alternate bearing and recent weather has made it difficult to continue to pull fruit from the field.
This fruit is picked when the color provides a nice yellow to orange blush, with minimal green. Upon arrival to the packing house the product is immediately sized and packaged, brushed, washed and waxed, and held in a temperature ranging between 40 - 45 degrees. The fruit will arrive firm, and if properly stored can hold several weeks. Exposure to higher temperatures will cause the fruit to deteriorate rapidly, so they are shipped ripe and ready to eat.
